Within the past week, I have finished both New Moon and Eclipse. I was meaning to write these two reviews separately, but I've been busy and finished Eclipse before I had time to write and post the New Moon review.
NEW MOON:
Where to being?
I guess first I should say that this book was not nearly as good as Twilight in my opinion. The reason being is that the 300+ pages of Bella being depressed started to get on my nerves after a while. I know that this is kind of a stupid reason to dislike the book, but it was enough for me.
I kind of have a mixed opinion of Jacob as well. At first he was cool (mostly because he saved the book from Bella's depression), but then in the epilogue he was a total dick. I will admit that him being a werewolf is cool, but that doesn't make up for his stupid idea of trying to get Bella in more trouble. After finishing it, I started thinking about him and the other werewolves transforming due to anger, and a completely random thought went through my mind. I can picture Jacob getting really pissed and shouting out "JACOB ANGRY! JACOB SMASH!" just like the Incredible Hulk. I know, completely random, like I said, but in my mind, somehow very funny.
The funniest part of this book had to be when Edward "proposed" to Bella. I just loved how she freaked out at that.
I guess the only other thing to talk about is that the Volturi were kind of cool in my mind. I could just picture them within a castle wearing the black robes.
Like Twilight, I still picture Ulquiorra from Bleach in my head (see Twilight Review for a picture), but now I picture Bella as Katara from Avatar (except much paler [link] ). I also pictured Jacob as Sokka and Alice as Ty Lee (both from Avatar as well [link] and [link] ).
That's pretty much it for New Moon.
ECLIPSE:
This one was much better! It still wasn't as good as Twilight, but much better then New Moon. The fight scenes were good and there was enough comedy mixed in to make it a good book.
I guess I should start this part by saying: Jacob is still an idiot. This book reduced my harsh feeling for Jacob a bit, but not enough to make him one of my favorite characters. When he kissed Bella, I was really hoping that she would have done at least a bit of damage to him (or that Edward would have popped out of nowhere and punched him as well). He was just too much of a cocky jerk in this book to make up for New Moon. I mean don't get my wrong, I sympathize with the guy, but that still doesn't excuse his behavior.
The climactic fight scene was one of the coolest thing I have read outside of Bleach and Naruto (even though I was picturing Ulquiorra sonido-ing when Edward was fighting Victoria). I think that using Newborn Vampires to create an army was a halfway decent idea, until it kind of backfired. It just sucks that the Volturi killed Bree before they left. It would have been nice to see her adopted into the Cullen family (or the coven in Alaska).
On a more random note, it was interesting to find out that Rosalie was born (or at least lived in before becoming a vampire) in the closest city to where I live. Also, I liked that fact that Jasper was a major in the Confederate Army.
The funniest part in this book for me what when Bella ended up breaking her hand when she punched Jacob. I was laughing hysterically during this part just picturing her getting pissed at him. Another funny part was when Jacob told Bella that Embry imprinted with a 2 year-old.
In the end, that's really all I have to say about this book.
I still like Twilight the best, with Eclipse as a close second and New Moon at the bottom of the list.
Hopefully I will have Breaking Dawn done in a few days so that way I can do this all over again with the final book.
Thanks for reading
P.S. If you don't read or watch Bleach, then you most likely won't know what sonido is. It's pretty much very fast steps that create a kind of metallic "woosh"ing noise. If you that doesn't help much, then this might: [link] The fist second or two has Ulquiorra using sonido.
